Former BTCC driver, Stewart Lines returns to the TOCA package, this time racing in the Ginetta SuperCup as he plans to compete in a full season in 2020. Lines is well known in the paddock, having previously raced in the BTCC and more recently in TCR in the UK and Europe. As well as running a successful telecoms business, Lines also organises multiple championships. These championships include the VW Racing Cup, The Dunlop Touring Car Trophy, TCR-UK and recently acquired the Civic Cup. Alongside this his team, Maximum Motorsport also run cars in other championships including Britcar.
His teammate will be up and coming race driver, Lee Deegan. Deegan has shown himself to be a talented driver, having won Autosport’s Top Club Driver last year along with the Civic Cup Championship and several other races in other championships across the world. Deegan has previously raced with Lines in 2018 in a TCR car for the 6-hour Birkett Relay, winning the race outright.
Lines said: “It will be great to go back racing again. Our commitment in running multiple race series makes it difficult for me to participate on track as well so this is an ideal opportunity for me to get behind the wheel.
I have picked my teammate carefully as I think it’s important to have a teammate that’s quick and is capable of winning overall honours.
In previous seasons in the TOCA package, Maximum Motorsport has had success in BTCC and also nearly won the Clio Cup championship with Ant Whorton-Eales so for 2020 we aim to do a similar job.”
Deegan Added “The Recent team up with Maximum Motorsport is fantastic. Joining a team like this has been something we have been working towards for many seasons now. We have had some great success in tin top racing and now it’s time to see how far we can push with a new challenge. Maximum have offered me a fantastic deal and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
In late 2018 I had my first involvement with Maximum when we entered a team together along with area motorsport in the Birkett relay taking a debut win in the TCR Seat Cupra. We had a great driver/team understanding and I hope we can take that into this season with Stewart and rest of the team.
Although the Ginetta SuperCup is a new championship for me, we have had a test at Blyton park in a Ginetta G55 and felt very comfortable with how the car reacts and was able to push from the start. I look forward to shaking this seasons car down and getting on track.
We are still looking for new sponsors to work together with this season and build on the success of 3 back to back championship wins over the last 3 seasons.”
